AWS Work-Based Learning Program
Looking for a great way to get started in tech? Check out the opportunities available through Amazon’s Work-Based Learning Program. The WBLP is a 12-month paid training program covering everything you need to know about data center operations, leading to careers in logistics, infrastructure delivery, decommissioning, and more.
The program combines self-directed web-based instruction, instructor-led sessions, and on-the-job training to build skills from the ground up. WBLP uses consistent onboarding, learning paths, and assessments, so you’ll always know where you stand and what’s next in your development. Participants who complete the program requirements and assessments will be promoted into their chosen roles at an AWS data center.

You’ll manage moving and implementing large enterprise equipment, installing fiber and copper cabling, and ensuring safety and security standards are maintained during cabling and rack installation.
Data center decommissioning technician
You’ll manage removal and recycling of large-scale legacy data center equipment, as well as process large volumes of customer data to ensure it’s sanitized and properly managed.
Data center logistics specialist
You’ll monitor data center inventory, in-bound shipments, and ongoing demand to optimize the flow of parts and speed of delivery, and you’ll work with vendors to process returns and receive and process replacements.

Grow at your own pace
“My participation in the WBLP has been transformative, both professionally and personally. The program provided an ideal learning environment where I could develop skills without feeling overwhelmed. Its paced structure allowed me to absorb and master new concepts comfortably and helped build my confidence gradually, enabling me to step out of my comfort zone and take on increasingly challenging responsibilities. I not only developed technical expertise, but I also gained valuable leadership skills. Perhaps most rewarding has been the opportunity to come full circle—from trainee to mentor. My transition into a mentoring role has strengthened my technical and leadership abilities, shaping me into a more effective tech lead.”

“The WBLP gave me the basic skills to grow my career. I came to AWS with no experience, right out of high school. I applied through the WBLP and started as an intern, which gave me three months to learn the basic functions of the role. I quickly moved into a full-time position, was promoted within six months, and continued to advance—eventually becoming a chief engineer, managing the maintenance activities in multiple facilities. Now I’m a project manager, and all of this was possible due to the WBLP. I wasn’t confident early on, but now I know I have skills that benefit me in so many areas in my career.”

No experience required
“I participated in the WBLP and gained hands-on experience as a data center operations tech. I came in with no technical knowledge, but I was fortunate to work with three mentors who each provided unique insights into different aspects of the role. Through this experience, I discovered my interest in network troubleshooting. My growth allowed me to take on more advanced projects, and I was able to share my experience by mentoring new techs on their journeys. Eventually, I became a subject matter expert in different server types and other work areas, which allowed me to participate in and lead special projects.”
